The euphoria experienced at Goodison Park following Everton’s 2-1 win over Bournemouth was apparent for all to see, but really it was a victory that papered over the cracks of another inert performance from the Toffees against a poor Bournemouth side that they should have buried.
You sense that the negative energy that emerged from the supporters when booing their side off at half time against the Cherries – and who can blame them? – is still near to the surface, and up against arch-spoilers Burnley it could be ready to erupt once more.
The Clarets are a tough old nut to crack, and if you aren’t at your best you won’t beat them – just ask Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool, who have left empty handed against Sean Dyche’s men.
They seem to raise their game against the perceived big clubs; food for thought for punters ahead of this one.
