EFL Cup Betting Tips Wednesday 25 October

When betting on the EFL Cup (and any tournament perceived as being largely unimportant for that matter), conventional wisdom can often be thrown out of the window.

The big boys will surely take this opportunity to rest a few players after a busy few weeks of international and continental action, while for the smaller fry still left in this EFL – or Carabao Cup as we should probably call it – have an opportunity to land a big scalp. The prize of a Wembley day out is not that far in the horizon.

So who makes up our EFL Cup betting tips this Wednesday?

Chelsea vs Everton (Wednesday, 7:45pm)

As mentioned in the introduction to this preview, this EFL Cup competition is perfect fodder for managers to rest players and give younger talents a try.

That may just be the road that Antonio Conte goes down here, opting to hand a rest to the likes of Tiemoue Bakayoko and David Luiz and try new faces like Ethan Ampadu and Charley Musonda a go instead.

As for Everton, Ronald Koeman simply cannot afford not to name his strongest team: his job depends on it. So expect a decent Toffees outfit to head south on Wednesday, and while they are woefully out-of-form they may find a much-changed Chelsea side more agreeable opponents.

Tottenham vs West Ham (Wednesday, 8:00pm)

To continue the well-trodden theme, Mauricio Pochettino will surely hand a rest to Harry Kane on Wednesday – the in-form frontman has played countless minutes this season already for club and country.

If he does, Fernando Llorente will surely deputise, and he looks like he still has an eye for goal. The fact that Pochettino trusted him to start at the Bernabeu against Real Madrid last week signals his trust in the burly striker.

We’d expect Slaven Bilic to name a strong West Ham side to make the trip across the capital – he, like Koeman, has no choice in the matter, but his Hammers side have conceded three goals in two of their last four starts. Llorente will not require much persuasion on his home debut for Spurs.
