Champions League Betting Tips 12 April

The Champions League has reached its quarter-final stage and what a set of fixtures have been created.

There’s two of the giants of European football meeting, a pair of the continent’s most powerful performers in the past decade, two of most exciting teams to watch in world football and the classic David vs Goliath style narrative.

We simply cannot wait, and here are some Champions League betting tips to whet the appetite further.

Atletico Madrid vs Leicester City (Wednesday, 7:45pm)

This is perhaps the most intriguing encounter of the lot. Atletico Madrid, who have reached two Champions League finals in the past three years, face the unpredictable but dangerous Leicester City.

The Foxes find themselves priced at 11/1 for this first leg in Spain, but they’ll be happy to score and then ensure Atletico don’t score too many. That way, like they did against Sevilla, they can take advantage on home soil.

The good news for Leicester fans is that Atleti don’t score too many; eleven in eight Champions League games this term to be precise. That’s partly due to Diego Simeone’s pragmatic style and partly due to a lack of firepower – Antoine Griezmann aside.

We’re in the absolute minority, but we give Leicester a shout here. They have won six from six under Craig Shakespeare, and like last season they can enjoy playing under the underdog banner.

Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid (Wednesday, 7:45pm)

What can you say about these two sides? Bayern Munich, Bundesliga title holders and perennial Champions League contenders, against Real Madrid; reigning champions of this competition.

Bayern just don’t get beaten at home. They are unbeaten in twenty matches at the Allianz Arena in all competitions, and have won sixteen in a row on home soil in the Champions League.

It’s going to take something extra special to halt them then, so can Real Madrid deliver? They have special players, that’s for sure, and they are in decent form too: one defeat in fifteen plus six wins on the spin in all competitions.

But here’s the slight rub: their away form in the Champions League reads W2 D3 L1, so clearly they have work to be doing in Germany. The last four of those away days have yielded Both Teams to Score and Over 2.5 Goal verdicts, and that is a market we’re happy to follow in here.

Borussia Dortmund vs Monaco (Wednesday, 5:45pm)

If you only watch one of these Champions League matches, don’t be tempted by the other more high-profile encounters: this will surely be the best for the neutral spectator.

Dortmund are in decent form at the moment – W7 D1 L2 in all competitions – and so they will take plenty of confidence into this game. They’ve been in decent nick in the Champions League this term as well, with five wins and two draws from their eight starts.

The strength of their home form was there for all to see in the last 16 clash with Benfica, where trailing 0-1 after the first leg in Portugal they demolished their opponents 4-0.

That scoreline is indicative of Thomas Tuchel’s outfit: they love playing on the front foot, and are capable of putting the ball in the net seemingly at will. Unfortunately for them, so to are Monaco.

The French side have won seven of their last eight matches in all competitions, and currently lead the Ligue 1 table. They are W4 D2 L2 from their eight Champions League matches so far, although their away return of W1 D1 L2 – including the heavy defeats at Bayer Leverkusen (0-3) and Manchester City (3-5) – will be of interest to Dortmund.

Both of these two teams have gone over the 2.5 goal mark in 6/8 Champions League matches – and 12/16 looks even better on paper – so goals have to be the focus here. Monaco’s away form in the Champions League is a concern, so expect the Germans to take the honours.
