Premier League Preview 2 & 3 April 2016

eden hazard chelsea fc

Following the international break, it’s back to Premier League action this weekend, with some great games in prospect, at the top and bottom of the table.

Table topping Leicester City, host Southampton on Sunday afternoon, in a match which could tighten their grip on the Premier League title. Players returning from friendly internationals may be even more confident than when they left, with N’Golo Kante and Jamie Vardy scoring for France and England respectively and Danny Drinkwater earning the man of the match award for his performance against Holland. Leicester have won four and drawn one of their last five home Premier League games and have conceded just 2 goals in the process. Southampton have recorded back-to-back wins and remain in contention for a Champions League place as a result. However, Leicester are a team and set of individuals, who are full of confidence and they are 11/5 with BetFred to win the match to nil and 13/5 with Bet365 to win by 1 goal.

Second place Tottenham, face a tough test at Anfield, against Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp’s team suffered a set-back last time out, losing a two goal lead at Southampton and can not afford to drop any more points, in their pursuit of the top four. Spurs on the other hand, need to keep the pressure on Leicester at the top of the table but have failed to defeat Liverpool in their last six attempts in the Premier League. The recent 1-0 loss at West Ham, was only Spurs’ second away defeat of the season and although Liverpool beat Manchester City in their last home game, they failed to win any of the previous three. Again, much can depend on the confidence and condition of players returning from international duty and despite the 0-0 earlier in the season, expect to see goals. Bet365 offer 10/3 for both teams to score and the match to end in a draw.

At the bottom of the table, Newcastle, Sunderland and Norwich are in desperate need of picking up some points. The injury to goalkeeper Rob Elliot, will come as a big blow to Newcastle and with Tim Krul also out, Rafa Benitez will be forced to play an inexperienced keeper at Norwich. The Canaries’ home form has been poor but Newcastle’s away form is worse, having failed to pick up a single point in their last seven away league games. The last two games between these two at Carrow Road, have ended 0-0 and this one looks set to be a tight, nervy affair. Under 2.5 goals is 4/6 with Ladbrokes and No, in the BTTS market is 4/5 with the same firm.

With Norwich and Newcastle playing each other, there’s a chance for Sunderland to possibly lift themselves out of the relegation zone, with a home win against West Brom. Tony Pulis’ team have struggled to pick up points away from home this season and with just one defeat in their last five home Premier League games, the 23/20 with Coral for a home win looks tempting.

It’s all set to be an exciting weekend of Premier League fixtures, one which could have huge consequences at both the top and bottom of the table.
