So we’ve run through a preview of the Men’s side of the Australian Open for 2016. Here’s a wrap of what to expect in the Women’s Australia Open this year, along with Key Dates and Betting Odds below.

The women have been throwing up some scintillating tennis in recent times and it’s making betting on their side of the game more and more fun. Serena Williams, of course, enters this event off an unbelievable 2015, but – like the Men’s – the Women’s Australian Open has thrown up numerous surprises in the past so not all money will be thrown into the same pot.

It was a year that few of us could believe in what we thought was the twilight of Williams’ career as she struggled through back complaints and other injuries. Last year, this tennis machine went on numerous winning streaks, reached a 114th week straight ranked world number 1, and became the first player in the Open era to record 50 wins in all four Majors. After winning last year’s Australian Open, she went on to complete a grandslam treble, winning three Majors in 2015 including her 6th Wimbledon. She fell just short of the fourth, going out in the semis at the US Open before taking a break at the end of last year to recover from ongoing injury concerns.

Another win here sees her match Steffi Graf’s Open-era record of 22 Grand Slam titles, so there’s real motivation and the odds show she’s favourite. But enough about Williams – who are her competitors?

Victoria Azarenka is one player who will be keen on redemption, having not made the final the past two years after winning back-to-back titles in 2012-13. She currently sits at world number 20, and will be looking to climb back up the ladder with a strong start to the calendar year.

Last year’s runner up Maria Sharapova is another one who had a relatively disappointing 2015 when it comes to actual title wins, but may have a say in the results in Melbourne. Sitting at 4th in world rankings, many believe she will once again be Williams’ biggest challenger. Her last Major victory was the French Open in 2014 however – very different conditions then she’ll experience here.

2013 runner up and 2014 Champion, Chinese Li Na, retired a while ago due to a serious knee injury – so that at least is one less concern for Williams as she looks to defend her title.
